IS YOUR SMOKE ALARM WORKING?

If your answer to the question above is I dont know, then you are guilty of disobeying one of the most basic rules in home security. It is a basic rule that you should test your smoke alarm at least once every two weeks.

To test your smoke alarm simply press the button on the front panel of the smoke alarm. If the alarm sounds it means that the smoke alarm is still working. On the other hand if the smoke alarm does not sound it could mean that the smoke alarm is no longer working. It could also mean that the battery of the smoke alarm is dead. However, not all smoke alarms use battery some use direct mains power.

A number of people with smoke alarms installed in their houses in recent years have been burnt alive(while asleep) because unknown to them, their smoke alarms were malfunctioning. If you do not have a smoke alarm or your smoke alarm is malfunctioning it is time to make one of the most important investments in your home security. Remember a smoke alarm can save your life, buy one now.

A smoke alarm alerts you of the danger of fire, thereby giving you valuable time to either escape or to fight it if it is a young fire. Most casualties that occur during fire outbreaks in homes are ussually caused by the occupants of the building not waking up early enough. Hence they die of poor visibility or/and choking.
